On Wednesday, a 70-year-old Prairie Village woman has pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government money, according to U.S. District Court records.
Gloria Burggraf was charged after evidence showed that she continued collected her deceased husband’s Social Security benefits for approximately 4 years after his death in March of 2021. Her husband’s benefits, along with her own, were being deposited into a joint bank account. Burggraf acknowledged that she did not alert the Social Security Administration of her husband’s death and continued to claim his Social Security distributions.
In total, Burggraf collected approximately $95,000 in overpayments that were intended for her husband.
Burggraf faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison. She will face sentencing at a later date, which has not yet been set.
